Prayer for the Victims of the Davao de Oro Floods and Landslides

Reading Time: 4 minutes

At least 10 people have been reported killed and close to 15,000 families have been displaced in a new round of landslides and flooding that hit Davao de Oro province over the weekend, following the continuous rains spawned by the trough of low pressure area (LPA) that has affected the Davao region since last week.

Even before the region could recover from floods induced by torrential rains in the middle of January, some 400,000 individuals were once again affected by the new calamity that has once again submerged agricultural lands, private properties and roads and bridges.

Provinces in the Davao region are still recovering from an earlier round of flooding and landslides brought about by the shear line last month.

Just before the recent round of landslides and floods brought about by the rains spawned by the trough of the LPA, the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental had declared their respective areas under a state of calamity to bring relief to the people and address the trail of destruction left behind by the previous weather phenomenon.

Psalm 57:1-2 – “Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge until destruction passes by. I will cry to God Most High, to God who accomplishes all things for me.

PRAYER: Almighty Father, our spirits are grieved as we witness the suffering and loss experienced by so many in the Davao de Oro province. We lift up to You all those who have been affected—the injured, the displaced, the grieving, and the traumatized.

Lord, in Your boundless mercy, we ask for Your comfort to envelop each person who is grappling with the aftermath of this disaster. May Your presence be felt as a soothing balm to their wounded spirits, bringing peace that surpasses understanding even in the midst of turmoil and despair.

We pray for those who have lost loved ones, asking for Your grace to sustain them in their grief. Surround them with Your love, O God, and remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted, bearing their pain and sorrow as Your own.

We lift up those who have been injured or are struggling with physical and emotional trauma. Bring healing and restoration to their bodies and minds, Lord, and grant them the strength to overcome their adversity with resilience and courage.

For those who have been displaced from their homes and communities, we ask for Your provision and protection. Provide for their immediate needs, O God, and lead them to places of safety and refuge where they can find shelter, sustenance, and support.

We pray for the brave individuals and organizations who are tirelessly working to provide aid and assistance to those in need. Bless their efforts, Lord, and multiply their resources so that they may be a source of hope and relief to many.

As we come together in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are suffering, may Your love compel us to action. Move our hearts with compassion, O God, and inspire us to extend a helping hand to those who are hurting, showing them Your love in tangible ways.

Above all, Lord, we humbly submit to Your will and Your ways, trusting in Your sovereign power to bring beauty from the ashes and to turn mourning into dancing. May this time of trial ultimately draw us closer to You, deepening our faith and strengthening our bonds of love with one another.

In Your mercy, hear our prayers, O Lord, and bring comfort, healing, and restoration to all who have been affected by this flooding and landslides. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Rock and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.
